Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
& Queen's Scout Award

In 2009 we will be offering the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Award in the District. There will be a number of training sessions which will be held at Mill Lane Scouting Centre in Wombourne on Saturdays during 2009 which will cover practical skills required for the expedition such as map reading/compass work, tent pitching, and basic first aid. You will also be receiving guidance on the three other sections required for bronze and Silver.

Programme

The Sections involve:

Volunteering (helping people in the community)
Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest)
Physical (sport, dance or fitness)

Expeditions
Residentials
(Gold/QSA only)

It would usually take a participant between 6-12 months to complete a Bronze Award, 12months to complete your silver and 18 months for Gold.

Benefits

The Award is widely recognised by employers and people involved in education. Some of the benefits to young people include developing self-confidence and self-reliance; gaining a sense of achievement and a sense of responsibility; discovering new skills, interests and talents and developing leadership skills and abilities. You will also discover exciting opportunities; make new friends; experience teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making; increase their motivation; enhance their self-esteem and develop their communication skills. You will also, of course, have fun!
